About Me

Hello, and welcome to our site; we are the Board Game Couple This site was born out of a love of board games by one couple. It is primarily looked after by me; Sarah. On this site I aim to turn my hobby of playing board games into a resource for you.

Here you will be able to read my thoughts and opinions on board games that I have played. I will upload reviews and pictures from actual board games I have played and hope that these will be useful for you when considering which board game out of the thousands out there to purchase.

I’ve always been what most people would call a bit of a ‘nerd’. I like my video games (Kingdom Hearts and Baldur’s Gate being my favourites), fantasy novels, I watch every Marvel film that comes out, read comics, Star Wars, horror films etc. But, it is only within the last couple of years that I have discovered a love of board games.

The first board game I actually played (as an adult and not the staples of Monopoly or Cluedo) was the Labyrinth (I’m a huge fan of the film) board game. I still find this board game ridiculously hard, but fun. It was also my first co-operative board game and me and my partner both got hooked. We quickly moved onto Pandemic amongst other popular board games.

By day we both work shift patterns currently which makes it difficult to get time to game. I’m a nurse which doesn’t give you much time for a social life so we find we only tend to have chance to play board games with each other or on occasion one or two friends. This left us searching for board games that are fun for two players. We would love to play some group board games, but it is rare we get chance. We found a lot of board games that state they are for two players don’t actually work great for two and that is where this idea came from.

I want to help you find games that you want to play. As a couple we know how difficult it can be to find games that are fun for two. We’re all been there; you go to your local game shop or look online and find an interesting looking game. The summary makes it sound amazing, artwork looks cool and then there at the bottom you see ‘3-6 players’. Or you drop lucky it says ‘2-4’ players. So you purchase the game and take it home. You and your partner eagerly await time off together to play it. And then it’s a disappointment because it doesn’t really work with two; the difficulty isn’t balanced or you can tell it wasn’t really made with two players in mind.

What we want to do is be your resource for finding board games for two players. We want to stop you from making the mistakes that we have made. Let’s face it; board games are not cheap these days.

In our board gaming infancy we purchased Eldritch Horror. It is 1-8 players. We had actually managed to talk a friend into playing it with us. So there we were the three of us trying to play this game out of the box over the course of a few hours. We never completed it and we never went back to it. The main reason being the difficulty curve was steep (like I said new to board games) and we should have read the rules beforehand. I still say you need a degree in the game to be able to play it. That tainted my experience of the game and put our friend off board games full stop. Getting him to play anything other than party games such as; Cards Against Humanity just does not happen anymore.

I want to stop that from happening to you. I want to help you find quality board games to play and know what to expect with what you are buying. I know that we all have different tastes in board games. I can’t stand Munchkin for instance whilst I know a lot of people including my partner like it. So I aim to provide balanced reviews containing good points and bad points to help you make your mind up if a game is for you.

By now I hope you have a good idea of the purpose of the site. If, however, you’ve skipped to here then let me reiterate. The purpose of this site is to help you find board games that are fun to play for couples or two players. I aim to provide balanced reviews that allow you to make an informed opinion. I will only review games that we have played and use pictures from our in progress games.

If you ever need a hand or have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will be more than happy to help you out. If there’s a board game you think we should review then let me know.

All the best,

Bonding with family and Friends is a very important aspect of life, and doing that while stimulating your brain and having fun can be a good habit to adopt. As the year just begun its good to try new things and different activities, i would like to learn more about different board games, from basic ones i can play with my wife and kids, to not so difficult i can enjoy with friends as a beginner.

Bonding with family and friends is very important. I think board games and card games are an excellent way of doing so. There’s thousands of board games out there with different purposes. There’s some where you have to work together to beat the board game, others that are educational and then there’s competitive ones. There is something for everyone out there. I plan to do some blogs showcasing the different styles of board game i.e. educational, competitive etc. and the age ranges there would be suitable for.
